ListStat is a Win32 command-line application that directly replaces the BUTIL -STAT command that Btrieve developers have come to know and love. Why do you need a replacement for the venerable BUTIL? The answer is simple: Vastly improved functionality!

The BUTIL -STAT function has several limitations, and we decided to eliminate them. First and foremost, have you ever been bugged by the big "Legend" at the end of the report that causes the important details to scroll off the top of the screen? Well, we did away with that first thing. W also compacted the other lines to prevent display scrolling as much as possible.

Then, we went back through and made each type of information optional. Let's say you only care about record counts and file versions? No problem -- one extra command line switch (/FR), and the rest is gone, leaving you with only the info you want.

Now, this would be a great step forward by itself, but we took it one step further -- WILDCARD SUPPORT! You can do a LISTSTAT *.* and get a stat report about EVERY file in the directory. But Wait! There's More! Not only can we do EVERY file, but we can recurse subdirectories, too! Couple this with the above switches to get JUST the data you want, and another switch or two to get the data in comma-delimited format, and you have a powerful tool indeed, making it very easy to plan for system upgrades, DataExchange implementations, or just to collect statistics from a large environment.
