Database and Application Design Services
Database design is critical to the successful Btrieve application.
It is very easy to create a Btrieve application, especially one which follows none of the rules. Creating a Btrieve
application which follows all of the rules, not only for the Btrieve environment but also for relational databases,
is more difficult. Goldstar Software has experience with extremely large databases, with tables numbering well
over 350. We recognize that there are certain times when a relational database structure will not operate correctly
or efficiently in an application, and we can help to keep the database as relational-compatible as possible while
still maintaining the high performance of the Btrieve subsystem.
Accessing Btrieve databases from the scalable SQL or the new relational interface is not always straightforward.
In many cases, the older data dictionaries are not compatible with the newer database engines. In fact, some old
dictionaries need to be completely rebuilt from the ground up in order to work with the new software. While there
are many ways of accomplishing this task, Goldstar Software has designed numerous tools to speed this process along.
We can take existing DDF's and oftentimes clean them up in-place, shortening the cycle time considerably. Some
